In November, 564 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) in the Netherlands were declared bankrupt, as against 698 in October according to Statistics Netherlands. In the first eleven months of this year, 6,804 businesses and institutions went bankrupt, i.e. an increase by more than 20 percent relative to the first eleven months of 2011.
As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month is closely related to the number of days courts are in session, it may vary considerably from month to month. Therefore, the three-month moving average is a more reliable indicator.
The three-month moving average stood at 606 in November versus 589 in October. Over the past four months, the three-month moving average has fluctuated around 600.
