ABN AMRO is to equip its ATMs with Live View, a video and detection system which enables the police to view criminal activity directly through surveillance cameras. The move was announced today by Gerrit Zalm, Chairman of the Managing Board of ABN AMRO, and Ivo Opstelten, Dutch Minister of Security and Justice. Live View increases the chance of catching criminals.
Dutch police have been using Live View successfully since June 2012. The live images enable the police to respond more quickly and in a more targeted way. Control room staff can decide immediately what police deployment is needed. Police officers who are near to the incident can also be alerted straight away.
Live View will be fitted to 100 ABN AMRO ATMs in 2013. Apart from Live View, ABN AMRO has also introduced a number of other preventive measures, which the bank believes will greatly reduce the number of criminal activities involving its ATMs.
ABN AMRO is the first Dutch bank to deploy Live View.
