Already thousands of apps for Apple iPad

There are already thousands of apps available for the Apple iPad.

The Applications for Apple’s iPad can be viewed in the iTunes App Store ahead of the highly anticipated release of the tablet-style computer Saturday.

The batch offers a sneak peek of what’s to come for the iPad and how users will be able to utilize the device, which Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled in January.

Right now, you can choose from over 150,000 apps in the App Store including entertainment apps, productivity apps, social networking apps, games and more. iPad works with almost all of them. So if you already have apps for your iPhone or iPod touch, just sync them to iPad from your Mac or PC. They run in their original size or you can expand them to fill the iPad screen.

The available apps cover a wide variety of categories, from entertainment and education to news and sports that, much like apps for other Apple products, range from useful to random.

When you’re a Netflix member, the new iPad app lets you watch as many movies as you want streaming to the device. This gives you access to some 20,000+ movies and television shows. You can also browse movies and manage your queue from the app. And you can even pick up watching them from where you left off on your TV or computer.

The Lonely Planet Publications’ “1,000 Ultimate Experiences” costs $19.99, MLB At Bat is priced at $14.99 and the diagramming program OmniGraffle goes for $49.99.

Most prices hover between 99 cents and $9.99 for programs such as Thesaurus XL, Hanoi Street Maps, Aki Mahjong, Stickies, Sex Offenders Search and ESPN Pinball. Familiar apps such as USA Today, AP and NPR are still free, so are apps for Netflix, ebay, and Yellow Pages, to name a few.

Amid heightened anticipation for the launch of its iPad tablet device on Saturday, Apple on Thursday made available numerous iPad-ready applications and began listing Web sites that have been optimized and enhanced for compatibility with the iPad’s features.

The sites of the following organizations are listed as iPad-ready thus far: CNN, Reuters, The New York Times, Vimeo, Time, Major League Baseball, The White House, Virgin America, Sports Illustrated, Flickr, People, and TED.

The iPad Is already reshaping the Internet with a lot of people who want their sites to look pretty on the iPad which doesn’t run Flash.

The Apple iPad goes on sale at 9 a.m. Saturday April 3rd.

Pricing will start at $499 for the 16-gigabyte version, $599 for the 32-gig version and $699 for the 64.
