The Catwalk Programme of the 19th edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week gives a very diverse picture of the most talented and innovative starting ánd established Dutch fashion designers and brands.
On Friday the 12th of July, the catwalk will be opened by SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers and MaryMe-JimmyPaul. Up till and including Tuesday the 16th of July, catwalk shows by i.a. Marga Weimans, Winde Rienstra, first timers such as Anne de Grijff, luxury men’s fashion brand Fransisco van Benthum and a spectacular kids fashion show by SuperTrash Girls are on schedule. Via the free Amsterdam Fashion Week App, everyone can watch the catwalk shows through a livestream.
On Saturday the 13th of July, Marga Weimans gives a beautiful interpretation of the innovation theme, both in her collection and in her presentation. The fashion designer gets her inspiration from other creative disciplines such as architecture, industrial design and fine arts and makes extensive use of new materials like resin, semi-precious stones and fiberglass. In this show, she approaches the catwalk as a concept and will create an intimate relation with the audience. Her show also marks the launch of Fashion LAB, Amsterdam Fashion Week’s new innovation programme.
In a relatively short period, Winde Rienstra has grown to become one of the audience favourites at Amsterdam Fashion Week. The Centraal Museum recently acquired eight of Winde Rienstra’s creations, which she showed at previous editions of Amsterdam Fashion Week, proving that her talent has not remained unnoticed. This edition, Winde Rienstra organises her own show at the grand catwalk in the Gashouder-building on Tuesday the 16th of July. Her fast development via the Fashion LAB of Amsterdam Fashion Week is a source of inspiration to all students of the Dutch fashion academies!
One of the newcomers on the 19th edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week is Anne de Grijff. Her brand constantly innovates by allowing imperfections, asymmetry and irregularities in the designs. The fact that she directly organises her own catwalk show, tells a lot about the way she built up her ready-to-wear label and successfully introduced it on the market in 2008.
Fransisco van Benthum is another striking example of a designer with a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Since his graduation from ArtEZ in Arnhem in the late ‘90’s, Fransisco van Benthum is well on his way to expand the luxury men’s fashion brand that bears his name and is known for its playful interpretation and re-composition of the codes and restrictions in traditional menswear. Last year, he even opened his first own concept store in Amsterdam. The catwalk show of the commercially successful designer forms the perfect finale of the Business Programme ‘Keys to Success’ on Monday the 15th of July.
This edition, SuperTrash Girls presents an innovative and spectacular children’s show, in which girls between 4 and 12 years old claim the leading roles. The collection by SuperTrash Girls will be as spectacular as always. The fashion professionals and celebrities who normally take the front row seats, now have to give up their place to (their own) children. This catwalk show on Saturday the 13th of July and the after party on the catwalk, promise to be sensational.
Last but not least, recurring talents such as FREDFARROWBRITTAVELONTAN and established designers like Claes Iversen, once again choose the platform that Amsterdam Fashion Week provides, to show their newest collections to buyers, agents, fashion professionals, investors and national and international press. The fashion lover too, is able to watch all catwalk shows frontrow through a livestream on the free Amsterdam Fashion Week App. On Tuesday the 16th of July, the Catwalk Programme is concluded by Lichting, a show in which the audience is introduced to the greatest talents of the Dutch fashion academies.
Besides the Catwalk Programme, Amsterdam Fashion Week also consists of Downtown, Fashion LAB and the Business Programme. Downtown events take place throughout the year. The highlight of Downtown is Fashion Weekend, that takes place on Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th of July in Amsterdam’s Fashion & Museum District.
