Amsterdam fashion week embraces public with ‘Fashion Weekend’

Amsterdam Fashion Week starts its 19th edition with ‘Fashion Weekend’, a publicly accessible two-day event that takes place on Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th of July. All over Amsterdam’s Fashion & Museum District, tens of fashion events, presentations, exhibitions and pop-up catwalk shows are organised by participating shops, hotels, restaurants, cafés and museums.

Talented designers match with beautiful locations
During Fashion Weekend, Amsterdam Fashion Week brings together the most beautiful locations in the Fashion & Museum District and the greatest talents in its network. Zohra Murad organises a fashion exhibition in the Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken and Marieke Hendriks gives a Mad-men-vintage-sewing-workshop in Linhard. Ingelot Cosmetics, silversmith/jewellery designer Maison Irem and fashion brand INKNI together organise a presentation about new colour palettes in cosmetics, jewellery and clothing and optician Oogappel hosts a photo shoot with fashion photographer Armando Ello. Underneath the canopy of the Stedelijk Museum, entrepreneurs from the area and Dutch fashion brands offer their pieces during The Fashion Bazaar. Various hotels, restaurants and cafés offer special fashion menu’s and participating shops give away discounts and presents through the ‘mobile coupon-booklet’ Vouchercloud.

During Amsterdam Fashion Week (6 till 16 July), the chic ‘Tunes Bar by Schilo’ in the Conservatorium Hotel is being transformed into the ‘Official Late Night Bar’. Every night, fashion lovers can enjoy a cocktail and re-watch the catwalk shows of Amsterdam Fashion Week. This is also the place to bump into celebrities, designers, models and the team of Amsterdam Fashion Week! During Fashion Weekend, the Conservatorium Hotel also hosts a meet & greet with designer duo Spijkers & Spijkers and a pop-up store by Sjaak Hullekes.

Museums host eight spectacular Pop-Up Catwalks
Throughout Fashion Weekend, everyone has the opportunity to watch a real pop-up catwalk show for free and front row! On quickly rolled-out Pop-Up Catwalks at the museums on Museum Square, models show the collections of talented designers that are available for sale. The eight Pop-Up Catwalks are made possible in part by FAB, Grazia, BeauMonde, Marie-Claire and Nouveau, who give talented Dutch designers a chance to experience what it is like to be in the spotlights.

CELEBRATE in AIR: ‘Fashion is a party that should be celebrated’
Another highlight of Fashion Weekend will undoubtedly be the public party ‘CELEBRATE – EVERYONE’S FASHION PARTY’, on Saturday the 7th of July in club AIR. This party, now a tradition, celebrates the connections between fashion and night life and is organised in collaboration with the Night Mayor of Amsterdam. The line-up consists of i.a. Amsterdam Fashion Week presents première The Bling Ring
After Fashion Weekend, Amsterdam Fashion Week continues with catwalk and business programme’s for fashion professionals. However, Amsterdam Fashion Week offers the members of its Frontrow Club the opportunity to catch a glimpse of these events as well.

On Saturday the 13th of July, Amsterdam Fashion Week organises together with A-Film Distribution the premiere of The Bling Ring, the new feature film of director Sofia Coppola, staring Emma Watson. The Bling Ring is a movie about fashion, fame and celebrities that is on show in theaters from the 1st of August. It tells the story of a teen gang that robs celebs like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan of designer pieces. After the film, the attendees see a catwalk show by top designer Claes Iversen. Starting the 17th of June and exclusive for members of The Frontrow Club, a limited amount of tickets for this night is for sale through www.amsterdamfashionweek.com.

Amsterdam Fashion Week App: Ultimate guide for Fashion Weekend and front row for free
