Amsterdam Halloween Festival dates

This year, Amsterdam Spook will celebrate its 13th year organising Halloween events in Amsterdam. Marking a 225-year milestone in 2013, and the very special venue chosen for this year’s Halloween party, is the Felix Meritis. The theme for Amsterdam Spook’s killer costume ball on 26 October 2013 will take Halloween fans down the rabbit hole with: SCARY TALES.

Scary Tales Halloween Costume Party
Saturday, 26 October 2013, 22:00-05:00
Felix Meritis, Keizersgracht 324, Amsterdam

Now I lay me down to sleep…
Once upon a time, children were read bedtime stories that included dismemberment, gratuitous amounts of cannibalism, suicidal mermaids, evil spells, angry bears, blind mice, wolves eating little girls, and comatose sex. There isn’t always a ‘happily ever after’.

Theme inspiration
Amsterdam Spook’s 2013 theme follows a long line of creatively creepy themes – Mad Science, Dia de Los Muertos, Freak Show, 50s Sci-Fi and last year’s Dead Famous, to name a few favourites. With SCARY TALES, Spook was inspired to bring the dark fables to life and the sweet stories a dose of horror. Creative costumes, décor, artists and performers are all specially crafted and selected by the sinister imagination of Spook, with the goal of offering guests an immersive, beyond-the-norm, authentic Halloween experience.

Who is the fairest of them all?
Costume required and anything goes! For the theme, think Hansel and Gretel, Edward Scissorhands, Bluebeard, Little Red Riding Hood, Lord of the Rings, Little Mermaid, Frankenstein, Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, Pan’s Labyrinth, Game of Thrones. Stories by the Brothers Grimm, Doctor Seuss, Hans Christian Andersen, Charles Perrault and Greek Mythology. Go as the headless horseman, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Medusa, Sweeney Todd, Snow Queen or Hades, or zombify Little Bo Peep, the Easter bunny, Cinderella and the 3 little pigs.

Creativity is rewarded! Cash prizes for Most Original, Best Duo/Group and Best Themed.

Location: Halloween in DEAD centre Amsterdam
The venue for this year’s costume party is a truly exceptional one! SCARY TALES will be hosted at none other than the Felix Meritis, a multi-level, ominous building from 1776. Towering along the Keizersgracht, the venue has 3 bars, a ‘pillar-room’, foyer, winding hallways, and a big high-ceilinged, round hall. On Halloween, we’ll transform this grand venue into a dark, sinister place, where the scariest of tales are brought to life.

Tickets on sale now!
Pre-sale tickets are 22 euros. A limited number of Early Spook tickets (4 for 3) are available now.

For the second year in a row, Amsterdam Spook attended the Europe’s foremost Halloween convention, ScareCON. With seminars on haunted houses, how to scare your guests on a budget, and prosthetic workshops, the Spook team returned home with reignited imaginations. Best-dressed at ScareCON’s evening programme, the ‘Scare Ball’, won a trip to Amsterdam for Halloween, sponsored by Amsterdam Spook.

The 4th Amsterdam Halloween Festival will be held from 25 to 31 October 2013. Last year’s festival drew in guests from across the globe and included a costumed roller-skate, horror movie marathon, make-up workshops, Halloween dinner, haunted boat party, kid’s activities and a sold out costume party at the Odeon Amsterdam. The 2013 programme will be announced 1 September.
