Dutch luxury department store chain The Bijenkorf will be sold to Selfridges.
Owner Maxeda Retail Group B.V. said on Tuesday it has agreed to sell its luxury department store chain, De Bijenkorf, to Selfridges Group Ltd
The department store chain is sold for an undisclosed sum to Selfridges Group, a subsidiary of the Canadian Wittington Investments.
Selfridges offers the most expertise and capabilities to furter develop the strategy of the Bijenkorf, according to the management of the Bijenkorf and Maxeda Group. Selfridges is a family business, which operates luxury retailers Selfridges in the UK, Brown Thomas in Ireland, and Holt Renfrew in Canada.
The Bijenkorf is the largest luxury department store in the Netherlands. The Bijenkorf, whose flagship store is a landmark building in Amsterdam’s main Dam square, have 12 department stores in the Netherlands’ biggest cities including Rotterdam and The Hague.
