Christmas boat parade in Amsterdam

For the very first time, the city of Amsterdam will hold its very own Christmas boat parade in the historical city of Amsterdam this year on Christmas Eve.

Set for 24th of December from 20:00 to 22:00, the parade will travel down the historical canals of Amsterdam.

The initiators have aspired to create a spectacular event promoting Christmas spirit in and around the historical canals of Amsterdam. The boats in the parade will be decorated with lights, music, choirs etc. in holiday themes and a delight to watch along the canals. The beautiful city of Amsterdam and her canals are the perfect background to host this festive Christmas event in 2009 and in the future. The event will take place on Thursday the 24th of December from 20:00 to 22:00. The tour will start from the “IJ” through the Prinsengracht and finish in the “Oosterdok”.

The Xmas Canal Parade mission is: to enhance the community’s image by producing a wholesome, unique, national recognized event that reflects the diversity and culture of Amsterdam. The Amsterdam boat parade embraces the dual goals of providing a means for the community to come together and enjoy a spectacular and unique Christmas event as well as attract positive national attention to the Amsterdam area as a tourist destination and as a great place to live and work.

The Xmas Canal Parade organization is comprised of a huge contingency of volunteers, supporters and sponsors. The foundation is entirely dependent upon sponsorship from local and national corporate sponsors. The event is free to the public.
