Dutch city residents feel unsafe

Residents of the four major cities; Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht feel twice as often unsafe in their own neighborhoods than in other cities. According to figures by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) published Wednesday.

Approximately 5 percent of the residents in The Hague and Rotterdam say they often feel unsafe in their own neighborhood. In Amsterdam, the percentage is at 4 in Utrecht just over 3 percent. In rural areas less than 1 percent feels regularly unsafe in their own neighborhood.

In the evening, the fear of crime increases. Approximately one in ten residents in Rotterdam often doesn’t feel comfortable in their own neighborhood. In the three other big cities the percentage in the evening is 8 in 10.
