Dutch animation wins Oscar for best visual effects in Life of Pi

The Dutch animation director Erik-Jan de Boer has won an Oscar for best special effects for his work on the film Life of Pi.

Together with three fellow animators, de Boer created the visual effects for the film Life of Pi, directed by the Taiwanese Ang Lee.

De Boer, who has worked in Hollywood for 15 years, earlier received a British BAFTA award for his creations in Life of Pi. De Boer’s work was also lauded by his American colleagues of the Visual Effects Society.

De Boer works for Rhythm and Hues Studios, based in Los Angeles, California. Previously, he created visual effects for films such as The A-Team, The Golden Compass, Night at the Museum and The Chronicles of Narnia.
