Dutch artists create 3D street painting in Florida

The Dutch street art collaboration Planet Street Painting was an absolute eye-catcher at the Chalk Festival in Sarasota, Florida.

The Sarasota Chalk Festival that took place between November 1 – 7, 2011 attracted 200,000 visitors to see artists from all over the world. The festival website opens with the Dutch artwork.

Their three-dimensional terracotta army of LEGO figures did well. And that’s understandable, just look.

As Planet Streetpainting’s art director Leon Keer is always fascinated about what history reveals. He tries to connects the historical events with current issues in this society. For the upcoming Sarasota Chalk Festival he has been inspired by the discovery of the Terracotta Army of China and Ego Leonard who washed ashore in Sarasota yesterday morning.

The starting point was the Chinese terracotta army of 200 BC which was found in 1974 by a group of farmers who were digging a pit. Planet Street Painting replaced the authentic Chinese Terracotta sculptures for LEGO figures. More pictures can be seen at Flickr by Leon keer.
