The Dutch car sales in the Netherlands increased significantly, in the first three months of this year, 145,491 new cars were registered. These are over 20,000 cars (16.1%) over the same period in 2009.

Despite the huge Toyota recall, there sales increased 19 percent in the first quarter of 2010. Toyota sold 14,170 cars. Toyota says its US sales jumped by nearly 41 percent in March. Its sales had dropped significantly after it had recalled millions of cars around the world due to faulty accelerator and breaking pedals. To boost its sales, Toyota is offering substantial discounts and zero interest loans.

Sales by US car makers were also up significantly. Ford sales rose by 40 percent, General Motors sales by more than 20 percent.

But sales in several eastern European countries saw a sharp fall.
