Dutch car sales up significantly

The Dutch car sales in the Netherlands increased significantly, in the first three months of this year, 145,491 new cars were registered. These are over 20,000 cars (16.1%) over the same period in 2009.

Volkswagen still leads the list of most cars sold. In the first three months 15,090 Volkswagens were sold. Despite the huge Toyota recall, there sales increased 19 percent in the first quarter of 2010. Toyota sold 14,170 cars. The 3rd, 4th and 5th place belongs to Ford (13,814), Opel (11,084) and Renault (10,869).

The list of best selling car models are the Toyota Aygo (5304), followed by the Volkswagen Golf (4650), the VW Polo (4417), the Ford Ka (4066) and the fifth spot for the Ford Fiesta (3504).

In the UK, overall sales rose 26.4%, while they added 18.2% in France, 20.6% in Italy and 47% in Spain.

Toyota says its US sales jumped by nearly 41 percent in March. Its sales had dropped significantly after it had recalled millions of cars around the world due to faulty accelerator and breaking pedals. To boost its sales, Toyota is offering substantial discounts and zero interest loans.

Sales by US car makers were also up significantly. Ford sales rose by 40 percent, General Motors sales by more than 20 percent.

But sales in several eastern European countries saw a sharp fall.
