Dutch Car thief caught by DNA spray

The Dutch Police in The Hague have arrested a 17-year-old Hagenaar who was sprayed with DNA spray when he broke into a decoy car.

It is the first time someone has been arrested on the basis of contact with synthetic DNA in The Netherlands, according to the Dutch police.

The police placed the decoy car on Thursday, March 11 in the Ter Borchstraat in The Hague. The decoy car was broken into on March 15th and the police was able to arrest the 17-year-old car thief shortly afterwards.

Once at the police station, ultra violet light showed the thief had been in contact with the DNA spray. He was also identified from video footage from a camera fitted to the car, according to the report.
