Dutch flower exports up in 2012

Despite the economic crisis, the export of flowers from Holland grew in 2012, Holland’s largest flower auction FloraHolland reports.

KoninklijkeCoöperatieveBloemenveilingFloraHolland (the Royal Cooperative Flower Auction FloraHolland) closed 2012 with a turnover of 4.28 billion Euros. That is a growth of 3% compared to the previous year. The largest export growth was to Russia. The positive developments were underscored in a report by ABN Amro bank which shows that both cut flowers and potted plants were popular products in 2012. According to the report, the export growth of cut flowers to Russia is especially high: 43 percent.

The European consumer keeps buying flowers and plants as before, thereby making the Dutch floriculture cluster one of the important pillars of the Dutch economy in 2012, FloraHolland reports. As part of the top sector horticulture, the ornamental plant and flower sector has made an added contribution to the international competitive position of the Netherlands.
