The average gas consumption of Dutch households almost halved over the last 30 years.
Gas consumption went from 3145 cubic meters in 1981 to 1617 cubic meters in 2010, according to a report by the Industry associations Netherlands Energy and Netbeheer Netherlands.
The decrease is almost entirely due to the rise of the high efficiency boiler and improved home insulation.
Dutch energy prices, excluding tax, are the lowest in Europe according to the industry. Dutch Energy taxes are relatively expensive.
