Dutch gold reserves location kept secret

A Dutch government spokesperson expresses concern about the Dutch gold reserves location.

Ninety percent of the Netherlands’ gold reserves are held overseas in. Much of the gold is in vaults in New York in the United States, say de Volkskrant newspaper.

The news was confirmed by the president of the Dutch central bank (DNB) Klaas Knot in a television interview. He believes that “the gold is fine where it is”, and has no plans to move the gold to the Netherlands.

Transport would be a logistical nightmare to organize, while insurance cover would be impossible to get and there are sufficient guarantees that the gold remains property of The Netherlands according to a spokeswoman for DNB. How much gold is stored where is unknown. The gold reserves and national finances are managed by the Netherland Bank.
