Dutch homes 8 percent cheaper than a year ago

Dutch house prices are nearly 8 percent lower than twelve months previously according to figures released by Statistics Netherlands.

Prices of existing owner-occupied dwellings sold in October 2012 were on average 7.8 percent lower than in October 2011. This is about the same price decrease as in the previous three months. The price index of existing residential property – a joint publication by Statistics Netherlands and the Land Registry Office – reflects price changes of existing owner-occupied dwellings in the Netherlands sold to private individuals.

Prices of existing owner-occupied dwellings sold in October 2012 were at approximately the same level as in early 2004. They were more than 16 percent lower than in August 2008, when house prices reached a record high.

A total 90 thousand house sales were registered in the first ten months of 2012, i.e. more than 8 percent less than in the same period last year.
