Dutch house prices nearly 5 percent down from last year

Prices of existing owner-occupied dwellings were on average 4.7 percent lower in November 2013 than in November 2012.

The price drop is more substantial than in the preceding month, when house prices fell by 4.0 percent. The index – a joint publication by Statistics Netherlands and the Land Registry Office – reflects price changes of existing owner-occupied dwellings in the Netherlands.

In November 2013, prices of existing owner-occupied dwellings were at the same level as at the end of 2002. They were 20.5 percent below the record level registered in August 2008.

In the first eleven months of 2013, a total of 94,631 homes were sold, a reduction by 5.3 percent relative to the first eleven months of 2012. But over the past five months house sales were above the level of the same month last year.
