Dutch people leaving the Netherlands in record numbers

Ever dream of leaving it all behind and heading out of the Netherlands? You’re not the only one. New figures shows that more Dutch citizens are leaving the Netherlands than ever before.

An average of 395 people left the Netherlands each day to live in another country last year, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands.

This is essentially because of dissatisfaction with the political climate, the impact of the economic crisis and the hardening of the society, the Telegraaf reports.

144,175 people emigrated from the Netherlands in 2012, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands. In 2011, nearly 134,000 people left and in 2010, 121,000.

Germany, Belgium and England were the most popular destinations, followed by Scandinavian countries.
