Dutch scientists create deadly flu virus

The United States is deeply concerned now that Dutch scientists have succeeded to create a very deadly variant of the avian influenza virus. U.S. experts fear that it will inspire terrorists.

Ron Fouchier, professor of virology at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, managed to create the highly contagious variant of the H5N1 bird flu virus. The research was commissioned by The U.S. NIH health authority.

Americans are afraid that the information will fall into the wrong hands and that terrorists will use the virus as a biological weapon.

It is currently investigated whether it is desirable to publish the research data, according to the media.
