Dutch truckers world’s best truck drivers

Dutch truckers are the best truck drivers in the world. 209 drivers from the Netherlands received the prestigious IRU Diploma of Honour by the International Road Transport Union (IRU), the global road transport organisation for truckers.

In total the IRU Presidential Executive awarded the IRU Diploma of Honour to 1,111 drivers from 26 countries worldwide for their excellent driving and safety records.

This prestigious award honours long-serving, safe, loyal and upstanding goods or passenger professional drivers, who have performed to the satisfaction of current and previous employers.

Each award winner has driven a minimum of one million kilometres during a career of at least 20 years in national or international goods or passenger road transport, without causing an accident or committing any serious violation of traffic, Customs or administrative regulations during the last five years.

The Netherlands tops the list with over two hundred truckers. This year’s recipients come from the following countries: Argentina (3), Austria (1), Belarus (84), Belgium (29), Czech Republic (66), Denmark (15), Estonia (10), Finland (1), France (36), Germany (185), Hungary (65), Kazakhstan (15), Latvia (26), Lithuania (36), Macedonia (5), Moldova (6), Netherlands (209), Poland (30), Portugal (5), Romania (77), Russia (75), Slovakia (34), Spain (7), Turkey (36), Ukraine (46), United Kingdom (9).

Nonsense. This just means you have 200 drivers who matched the criteria and were submitted for evaluation. It says nothing about overall driving standards in any country. The headline makes the Dutch sound conceited

What’s wrong with that? Each country probably picked the 200 of their best truckers and compared to each other, and the Netherlands came out on top.
