Dutch university fourth in the world for water research

The Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) is ranked fourth in the world for water research. The Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) and Elsevier recently published an overview of water research published between 2007 and 2011. In the top 10 most influential universities in the field of water research, TU Delft is ranked fourth. TU Delft scores well in the water resources research category, including the study of (fresh) water use and technology.

Wageningen University is the next highest ranked Dutch university, at number seven, with an emphasis on the combination of water and food. This is significant because drought has been identified as the biggest threat to food production in densely populated developing countries.

According to the report the most influential articles in the field of water-resources research come from the Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark and Belgium. In this respect, the Netherlands comes out on top in terms of both the number of citations per article and of international collaboration.
