The provision of heroin to heroin addicts has proved very successful in the Netherlands.
That is the conclusion of psychologist Peter Blanken, a doctoral student at the University of Amsterdam on the effects of heroin on prescription.
Since the start in 1998, he is involved as a researcher in the project, reports Dutch newspaper Spits. More than half of addicts are getting better, physical, mental and social.
Also it saves the Dutch society about 13,000 Euros per year per addict. And there is a sharp drop in the number of thefts and robberies, so therefore a decline in the cost of justice, police and prison.
