400.000 ghost citizens in the Netherlands

The Netherlands has approximately 400.000 ghost citizens, people who are untraceable for the Dutch government and businesses, according to a research by RTL Nieuws.

These ghost citizens cost the government and companies millions because they are nowhere to be found.

Amsterdam has the most ghost citizens, with about 80,000 people who have vanished according to municipality records.

The Dutch government and companies lose more than 100 million Euros each year, because they cannot collect bills from people who have vanished.

The Dutch tax authorities have around 40.000 untraceable people who still need to pay their taxes.

Most of the claims relate to Dutch businesses. Court bailiffs identify more and more ghost citizens in the Netherlands every day, said a spokesman.
