India plans to double its food production in the coming 5 years and is making funds available to employ Dutch skills and expertise in order to realise this.
In 2012, the Indian and Dutch Governments signed mutual agreements to work together towards greater efficiency in the Indian agrifood sector. In recent months the Ministry of Economic Affairs, together with several Indian states, the Netherlands Agro, Food and Technology Centre (NAFTC) and Greenport Holland International (GHI), have worked on proposals for the establishment of Dutch-Indo Centres of Excellence.
The Centres of Excellence will provide training and give businesses the opportunity to demonstrate their production methods and techniques. Dutch businesses will contribute to increasing food production in India through improved production methods, logistics and food safety measures.
The ten Centres of Excellence will concentrate on the horticulture, dairy cattle, potato, meat and pork supply chains and will create opportunities for collaboration between Dutch and Indian businesses.
