Calvin Klein ads featuring Lara Stone banned
Lara Stone’s new Calvin Klein ad has been banned in Sydney and Melbourne after the Advertising Standards Bureau ruled that it was ‘suggestive of violence and rape’.
The overtly sexual images, shot by photography duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, depict Dutch model Lara Stone fooling around with a group of half naked guys in what looks like a public basketball court. Curiously, she doesn’t seem to be wearing any jeans, or underwear, but also doesn’t seem to mind so much.
The advertisement sparked a storm of complaints from sexual assault workers and women’s groups after it was posted on billboards across the country.
A spokesman from the Advertising Standards Bureau said that the image was demeaning to both men and women.
The ad was part of a series but it was this particular billboard shot that caused the outcry from activists who said the photo was using images of gang rape to sell clothing.
The Australian government ordered the ads be taken down.
The previous Calvin Klein campaign for Secret Obsession and CK Jeans with actress Eva Mendes also caused riots.
