One-day left for sailing girl Laura Dekker (14) and then she may finally start her solo sailing trip around the world.
Laura will sail with her father from Zeeland Den Osse to Portugal, and will begin her round-the-world venture from there later. During that trip, the last things on her boat Guppy will be tested and improved. Then she will travel from Portugal to continue alone.
She will start her trip depending on the weather, possibly the end of the hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean. This may take until December, said her lawyer, Peter Lange.
Laura won a prolonged battle last Tuesday when a court in Middelburg released her from the guardianship of Dutch child protection agencies that had blocked her attempts to leave last year when she was still 13. The authorities said being alone and absent from school for so long would be harmful for her education and psychological development.
