Neil Diamond coming to the Netherlands

The American singer Neil Diamond is coming to the Netherlands on Thursday, June 9 for a concert in Rotterdam Ahoy.

Neil Diamond has a musical career of more than fifty years and sold more than 128 million records worldwide.

The presale for the concert will start Saturday.

Diamond’s career took off in the late 1960s and he helped pave the way for the 1970s singer/songwriter movement with a series of hits including “Solitary Man,” “Cherry, Cherry, “”Brooklyn Roads,” “Sweet Caroline,” and “Cracklin’ Rose.” Diamond found himself in great demand as both an artist and a songwriter, especially after the Monkees had No. 1 and No. 2 hits, respectively, with his compositions “I’m A Believer” and “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You.” In the summer of 1972, Diamond played 10 sold-out nights at the famed Greek Theatre in Los Angeles that were captured on the multi-platinum Hot August Night, and in 1973 he won a GRAMMY Award for his soundtrack release to the film version of Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

Throughout the 1980s and ’90s, Diamond became increasingly popular as a live performer and remained productive as a recording artist, releasing acclaimed albums such as Headed For The Future, Up On The Roof — Songs From The Brill Building, Tennessee Moon, and the boxed set In My Lifetime. This same period found Diamond’s work being rediscovered by a new generation of fans through covers of his past classics, including UB40’s version of “Red, Red Wine” and Urge Overkill’s rendition of “Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon” from Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction.

In 2001 Diamond marked a new century with Three Chord Opera — an album that was the first collection of songs he had written by himself in a quarter century. 12 Songs followed in 2005, marking his first collaboration with six-time GRAMMY-winning producer Rick Rubin. Diamond’s latest project, Home Before Dark, found him working once again with Rubin and debuted at No. 1 — the singer’s first chart-topping debut.
