Netherlands one of top 5 largest exporters in the world

The Netherlands was in 2008 one of the five largest exporters of goods in the world, according to the 2009 World Trade Report from the World Trade Organization WTO.

Last year Dutch exports reached a total volume of 634 billion dollars and made the Netherlands, the fifth largest exporter in the world. Germany remained the world’s largest exporter with a total export value of 1465 billion dollars.

The Germans were closely followed by China, to 1428 billion dollars of goods shipped. The United States and Japan completed the top five.

The start of the global recession resulted last year in a very low growth in world trade. The export of goods worldwide was only 2 percent higher than a year earlier. The previous four years, annual exports grew at least 6 percent.
