Netherlands, the next fashion hub

The Netherlands is becoming an international stage for the fashion industry. At Amsterdam’s Green Fashion Awards, promoting sustainability, were both Dutch designers and designers from abroad nominated.

The Green Fashion Competition is a competition for entrepreneurs in the fashion industry, for individuals (and teams) with a vision of what the future of fashion should look like. The aim of the competition is to find the talented entrepreneurs in the industry who aim to create a fashion business while sustaining biodiversity.

Minister Verhagen of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation (EL & I), awarded the Green Fashion Award to Studio JUX. The fashion label scored best on sustainability, corporate approach and creativity.

“This brand clearly addresses biodiversity issues in the fashion industry and provides a very good overview of materials used, related certifications and sourcing locations. The designs are modern, and simple but interesting enough not to bore. The playful and colourful designs are striking.” The jury believe that this company can have a true impact on the communication of green labels and a that it has a thorough understanding of biodiversity and sustainability in general, the business plan even included a Life cycle analysis of CO2 emissions. “The business plan reads that the brand means ‘Fun’ in German. We would not be surprised if it means ‘Sustainable’ in Nepalese.” said the Jury.

The Green Fashion Competition aims to create the foundation for a fashion industry that is produced in a manner wherein biodiversity is preserved. The only way in which this can be done is when entrepreneurs are able to find a balance between the economical, ecological and social impact of their ideas; a balance between People, Planet and Profit.

The Green Fashion Competition will provide the entrepreneurial talents within the Dutch fashion industry with coaching, support, an international platform and sizeable financial aid for launching their ideas.
