North Sea Jazz Festival 2012 initial lineup announced

Mark your calendars, The annual North Sea Jazz Festival returns July 6-8, organizers announced this morning, along with the first wave of acts appearing at the Jazz festival.

This morning, at radio 6, festival manager Jan Willem Luyken has announced the first names for the North Sea Jazz Festival 2012.

Amongst others, Van Morrison, Macy Gray & David Murray Blues Big Band and the Wayne Shorter Quartet are confirmed. Besides them also Melody Gardot, Amos Lee, Gregory Porter and Tony Bennett will perform during the three days indoor festival at Rotterdam.

Similar to last year, a night concert has been organized this year. On Friday night Lenny Kravitz will take the stage. For this concert also casual tickets are available.

Further confirmed are Janelle Monáe, McCoy Tyner Trio with Ravi Coltrane, Pat Metheny Unity Band, Dave Holland Quartet, Robert Glasper Experiment and Hugh Laurie, the famous actor/pianist, whose album, Let Them Talk, produced by Allen Toussaint was released last year.

Also performing at the 37th edition of the North Sea Jazz Festival, will be Spectrum Road (featuring Jack Bruce, John Medeski, Cindy Blackman and Vernon Reid), Ahmad Jamal, Joe Lovano-Dave Douglas Quintet, the Hiromi Trio featuring Anthony Jackson en Simon Philips, and The Kyteman Orchestra.
