OMA Designs Hong Kong Railways

The internationally successful architectural firm OMA, known from famous Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, will design the new face of the Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTR), Hong Kong railway.

The new designs will first done at two stations in the Chinese city, which will serve as prototypes for the entire metro system of Hong Kong.

The design agency will cover all aspects of the two ‘test stations’: the relationship to the environment and accessibility, connections, circulation, stations and platforms, the station furniture, signage and design of the MTR.

The first stations with in the new desgin are expected to be operational in 2020.

The project was won by the OMA office in Hong Kong, led by David Gianotten.

The agency also works in the Chinese city on a new campus for the ChuHai College.

Besides the Headquarters in Rotterdam, OMA has branches in New York, Hong Kong and Beijing.
