Political crisis in Belgium

Prime Minister Yves Leterme was on his way this afternoon to the palace of King Albert II to offer the resignation of his Government. The Belgium prince had earlier canceled another appointment. The resignation of the Belgium Cabinet is due to the fact that the Flemish liberal party Open VLD announced to leave the Belgian government. This has been announced by the party chairman Alexander De Croo on Thursday.

Trigger for the crisis is the failure of the negotiations on the bilingual constituency Brussels-Halle-Vilvoorde. Open VLD wanted to stick to the agreed deadline. Which runs untill 14.00 hours this afternoon.
