Port of Rotterdam Handled Most Goods of All EU Ports

The Port of Rotterdam handled the most goods of all EU ports in 2011, the most recent year for which figures are available.

The Port of Rotterdam handled 408 million tons of goods in 2011, representing the majority of goods that came through the Netherlands. Dutch ports, including Rotterdam, handled 542 million tons of cargo.

Overall, EU ports handled 4.1 billion tons of cargo in 2011, representing a small increase from 2010.

These figures are published in a report from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, on port activity for goods and passengers in the EU, and Norway, Croatia, and Turkey.
