Record number of shows during Amsterdam Fashion Week

The catwalk schedule for the 18th edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week, that takes place from Friday the 18th through Sunday the 27th of January 2013, was announced today. With no less than 35 fashion shows taking place in the Gashouder building and the Transformatorhuis on the Westergasfabriek, the upcoming edition will break all existing records. Both talented, starting fashion designers and designers with a longer track record will show their new collections on the catwalk and propagate the quality and versatility of the Dutch fashion industry. This edition Amsterdam Fashion Week will also organise many publicly accessible activities in and around the Fashion & Museum District. Besides, there will also be an agenda with activities in the city centre. With its comprehensive programme, Amsterdam Fashion Week will wrap the city in fashion and confirm the position of Amsterdam as an International Fashion Capital.

Amsterdam Fashion Week has 35 fashion shows scheduled in the Gashouder building and in the Transformatorhuis at the Westergasfabriek. With a significant increase in the number of shows, the organisation demonstrates the necessity of a platform for the Dutch fashion industry. The Netherlands produces many talented fashion designers, who have proven themselves internationally. Amsterdam Fashion Week works with three categories of designers and labels: Fashion Week Talent LAB, Young Professionals and Established Designers/Labels. Amsterdam Fashion Week positions the creativity of the Dutch fashion scene both at home and abroad. Examples of Fashion Week Talent LAB are designer duo FREDFARROWBRITTAVELONTAN and Ann Boogaerts, examples of Young Professionals are Winde Rienstra and Melisssa Siegrist. Examples of Established Designer/Labels are Gsus sindustries and Cold Method.

The freely accessible public programme of Amsterdam Fashion Week
The shows at the Westergasfabriek are not accessible to the public. To engage the inhabitants and the visitors of Amsterdam with Amsterdam Fashion Week, a programme of publicly accessible activities has been composed.

Through parties, exhibitions, shows and in shops, consumers are inspired and can enjoy everything that Amsterdam has to offer in fashion. The number of participating organisations to this part of Amsterdam Fashion Week is growing. The complete public programme will be announced early January.

The official catwalk programme, Amsterdam Fashion Week Uptown, and the business programme focus mainly on professionals from the fashion and related industries. The catwalk programme takes place in the Gashouder on the Westergasfabriek. The public programme, Fashion Week Downtown, mainly takes place in the city centre and the Fashion & Museum District of Amsterdam.
