Russia Hunts Top Double Agent After Betrayal of Sexy Spy Anna Chapman

A high-level Russian double agent is reportedly on the run after it was revealed that he led U.S. officials to the Russian spy ring – including sexy Anna Chapman – that was deported from the US this summer, a Moscow newspaper has reported.

The Kommersant daily claimed Colonel Shcherbakov, the former chief of Directorate S, a branch of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), had helped the U.S. break up the deep cover espionage operation.

Days before the arrests, Col. Shcherbakov fled to the United States, joining his daughter, the newspaper said, quoting intelligence sources. It added he had earlier turned down a promotion to avoid a lie detector test.

In June, the FBI arrested ten Russian intelligence officers who had been sent to North America on long-term spy missions.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev honored them and one of them, Anna Chapman, was nicknamed the “Russian Bond girl” and posed for racy lingerie photos in the Russian edition of the men’s magazine Maxim.
