The Dutch actor Rutger Hauer confirmed that he will play the role of the vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing in Dario Argento’s ‘Dracula 3D‘ movie.
Rutger Hauer has confirmed to the American magazine Entertainment Weekly that he is set to play Van Helsing in legendary horror director Dario Argento’s new movie, Dracula 3D.
“That could be really, really exciting,” said the star of The Hitcher and Blade Runner. “I’m flying to London and when I get there I want to have a talk [with] The Master about what he thinks he gets from me, to see where he lives. I can see 3-D working really well and he’s experimenting with it.” Argento will shoot Dracula 3D in Budapest later this year.
The story of the ruthless vampire Dracula which author Bram Stoker wrote late nineteenth century, has been filmed more than fifty times.
Abraham Van Helsing is in the book, a physician and vampire expert from Amsterdam, who tries to take out bloodsucker Dracula.
It will be the first time that a Dutch actor takes on the role of Van Helsing.
Hauer will next be seen in Hobo With a Shotgun, a berserk homage to ’80s action movies that opens May 6.
It is a busy year for the 67-year-old Hauer. His new movie Hobo With A Shotgun and The Rite get its premiere in the US and at the end of March the drama Black Butterflies will be released in Dutch cinemas, in which he plays an important supporting role.
In March and April, the movie The Heineken Kidnapping will begin filming, in which Hauer stars as beer tycoon Alfred Heineken. This movie will be released in Dutch cinemas this autumn.
