September 2011 one of the hottest on record in the Netherlands

Temperatures around the Netherlands were higher than expected Friday September 30th, above 27C in several cities around the country.

According to the Dutch national weather service, KNMI, temperatures were well above normal. September provided more sunny days than July and August together. This month was almost as hot as July and one of the Hottest Septembers in the Netherlands.

Five years ago it was even warmer in September and with an average temperature of 17.9 degrees the warmest since 1901.

Weather forecasters expect the weather to remain warm until the beginning of next week.
