Shell Makes Giant Oil Discovery in Gulf of Mexico

Shell discovered a large oil field in the Gulf of Mexico. The oil well lies 2200 meter below sea level in the eastern part of the Gulf of Mexico. According to Shell.

With the first test drilling an oil layer of about 162 meter was detected. In a further drilling to a depth of nearly 8 kilometer layer of oil was found around 116 meter.

Shell has a 80 percent interest in the oil discovery, the Canadian company Nexen owns the rest. The companies have not yet disclosed how large the new Oil well is.
