Summa Group and the Port of Rotterdam sign Global Strategic Partnership agreement

The Chairman of the Board of Summa Group Ziyavudin Magomedov and the President of the Port of Rotterdam Hans Smits have signed a Global Strategic Partnership agreement.

“We welcome this opportunity to partner with the largest port in Europe. The scope of our cooperation is not limited to Russia and the Netherlands. We will also be looking at opportunities to cooperate in China, India and other countries”, said Mr. Magomedov.

“We have high expectations from our partnership with Summa Group, a leader of the Russian ports and logistics sector. It fits in well with our ambition to create partnerships with the world’s leading companies in logistics, petrochemical industry, iron & steel and mining”, said Mr Smits. These strategic partnership programs are part of the Port of Rotterdam’s strategy to create a global network of port industrial complexes in the strategic markets of Russia, Brazil, Southern Africa, Middle East, Mediterranean and Asia.

It is also envisaged that the Port of Rotterdam and Summa Group will share best practices in order to further improve the efficiency of their port assets. There will be a specific emphasis on cooperating in the field of sustainable development and in setting new standards in green port technology.

This agreement comes after Mr Magomedov and Mr Smits signed an agreement on the construction and operation of a new oil terminal in the Port of Rotterdam in the presence of the President of Russia and the Prime Minister of the Netherlands. That agreement was signed on October 20 between the Port and Shtandart TT B.V. which is 75% owned by Summa Group. The terminal’s construction will start in 2013 and it will begin operations in 2015.

Summa Group is a diversified private holding with significant investments in port logistics, engineering, construction, telecommunications, and in the oil and gas sectors. Its companies employ more than 10,000 people in almost 40 regions of Russia and abroad. Mr Ziyavudin Magomedov is the founder and owner of the Group. The NCSP Group, where Summa Group is a shareholder, is the third largest port operator in Europe in terms of cargo turnover.
The Port of Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe and one of the largest ports in the world with a turnover of 430 million tons.
