Top 5 Summer Movies of 2010

Inception, Salt, Toy Story 3: See our full list of the hottest movies coming up this summer.

Summer is here, if you need a break from the blistering sun and sweltering heat, head indoors and set up a movie screening of one of these great summer flicks.

When you think summer movies, you think sequels, remakes, super-heroes, and gross-out comedy. Summer 2010 can be summed up simply: Sequels, remakes, comic book adaptations.

The summer of 2009 was host to some surprising hits (Star Trek, The Hangover, The Proposal) and some shocking failures (Land of the Lost, Terminator: Salvation) and a few major disappointments (again, Terminator: Salvation and X-Men Origins: Wolverine).

Which movies are you looking most forward to seeing this summer? Leave your must-see movie list in the comments.

1. “Inception” (July 16)
This thriller from “Dark Knight” director Christopher Nolan stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, and our favorite, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It’s about a group of dream thieves who slip into the subconscious minds of people while they are sleeping and steal ideas for corporate gain. Sounds insane and awesome.

2. “Salt” (July 23)
Angelina Jolie is a Russian spy or isn’t she? Before becoming a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt swore an oath to duty, honor, and country. She will prove loyal to these when a defector accuses her of being a Russian sleeper spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture, protect her husband, and stay one step ahead of her colleagues at the CIA. Hopefully, Angelina can still impress us with her acting chops. If not, it’s at least very cool that she did many of her own stunts for the flick.

3. “Twilight: Eclipse” (June 30):
In ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. May the best otherworldly being win!

4. “The Expendables” (August 13th)
A group of mercenaries is hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator. Once the mission begins, the men realize things aren’t quite as they appear, finding themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal.

5. “Toy Story 3” (June 18th)
Woody and Buzz had accepted that their owner Andy would grow up someday, but what happens when that day arrives? In the third installment, Andy is preparing to depart for college, leaving his loyal toys troubled about their uncertain future.
