Samsung dominates Dutch smartphone market

Smartphone penetration has continued to grow in the Netherlands over the past year. In the third quarter of 2013, 72 percent of Dutch mobile phone users had a smartphone, up from 56 percent in the third quarter of 2012. Samsung still dominates the smartphone market and saw its share increase from 42 percent in Q3 2012 to 47 percent in Q3 2013. Tablets quickly gaining acceptance in the Netherlands

More than four in ten (42%) Dutch households owned at least one tablet in Q2 2013, up by 10 percent compared to six months earlier. Almost half of Dutch consumers either already have or think they will soon need a broadband connection of 50Mbps or more. This is up from just over a quarter a year ago, according to research by Telecompaper. Researchers at the Meertens Institute and the University of Twente are today launching TweetGenie, a computer program that can guess the age and gender of Dutch tweeters based on their use of language.
