TU Delft rises further in the THE World University Rankings

TU Delft has risen in the international rankings of the best universities, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, moving from the 77th to the 69th place. This means that TU Delft is ranked second among Dutch universities and as the best Dutch university of technology.

TU Delft President Dirk Jan van den Berg is delighted with the rise of TU Delft in the THE rankings, but at the same time he is also careful to place the value of such ‘league tables’ in perspective. “There are a number of rankings, and compiling these kinds of tables is not an exact science. A lot depends on the way in which these are compiled and the criteria on which they are based. But such tables do inspire you to keep working on your performance and to continue to invest in order to maintain the strong position of Dutch universities.”

he Times Higher Education World University Rankings are highly regarded global performance tables of the 400 best universities in the world. The THE rankings are compiled on the basis of thirteen different indicators relating to teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. In this way, the Times Higher Education rankings provide a broad assessment of the universities.

Earlier this year, TU Delft shared a 51st to 60th place in the Times Higher Education magazine’s World Reputation Rankings, just like last year. This made ‘Delft’ the highest scoring Dutch university and the third highest university of technology in Europe. The Reputation Rankings are based on the reputation of the teaching and research at universities among academics worldwide. Almost 50,000 academics complete written surveys as part of the polling process. They are asked to indicate which universities they rate the best in their own specialist area.
