Dutch youth living an unhealthy lifestyle

Dutch youth live unhealthy, according to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

Over two thirds of Dutch youth exercise too little, drinks too much and smoke cigarettes or pot.

Especially boys and natives are smoking too much, immigrants generally exercise too little. One in five youth between 15 and 25 years old combines at least two unhealthy habits according to CBS.

Additionally one in five youth smoke daily and a similar proportion were heavy drinkers. A heavy drinker is someone who has at least once a week six or more alcoholic drinks on one day.

Especially boys use quite often alcohol and drugs. Among boys, 28 percent are heavy drinkers and 12 percent used cannabis. With girls it is 11 and 5 percent.

There are almost no differences between Dutch boys and girls with daily smokers and lack of exercise.
